Summary

Electrospinning has moved well beyond the laboratory, and this chapter reviews where electrospun nanofibers actually succeed as commercial products — and what still stands in the way. The high surface-area-to-volume ratio and porosity of nanofibers make them ideal wherever those properties matter, from filtration to healthcare and cosmetics. Written from an industrial nanofiber manufacturer’s perspective, the chapter surveys real applications and the practical hurdles of scaling electrospinning to volume production. A central case study is ActiVLayr™, a patented electrospun type-I collagen nanofiber membrane that carries natural extracts and active cosmetic ingredients and dissolves into the skin within seconds — illustrating how nanofiber technology reaches market. The authors discuss applications, clinical results, market trends and future opportunities for commercial electrospinning.
