Summary

This study examines electrospun poly(hydroxybutyrate-co-hydroxyvalerate) fibres functionalised with silver and gold nanostructures, evaluating them as dual-action materials that combine antibacterial activity with biocompatibility for wound care and tissue engineering. The work compares how the two metals affect fibre morphology, surface chemistry and the balance between bacterial inhibition and mammalian cell viability, with the aim of identifying formulations that remain effective against pathogens without compromising the response of host cells.
