Summary

This work addresses the processing and characterisation of hybrid nanocomposite materials designed for increased impact resistance. Hybrid nanocomposites combine a polymer matrix with more than one type of reinforcement — typically rigid inorganic nanoparticles together with fine, continuous electrospun polymer fibres — so that the stiff filler raises hardness and stiffness while the fibres add toughness and absorb impact energy. The study covers how such materials are prepared and how their structure and mechanical behaviour are evaluated, with the goal of tuning the balance between hardness and impact resistance for demanding applications.
