Summary
Pear psyllids transmit the phytoplasma responsible for pear decline, and repelling them is an alternative to killing them. This study tests the main synthetic constituents of clove essential oil - eugenol, eugenyl acetate and β-caryophyllene - against two psyllid species in olfactometer assays, identifying which mixture actually repels. The active formulation is then built into a nanofibre-based dispenser, so that a laboratory-verified repellent becomes a device that releases its volatiles steadily in the orchard.
