The Analysis of Forming PVB-SiO2 Nanocomposite Fibers by the Electrospinning Process

Summary

Producing uniform polymer/inorganic nanocomposite fibres by electrospinning requires understanding how the process parameters shape fibre formation. This work analyses the electrospinning of poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB) combined with silica (SiO₂) nanoparticles, examining how the composite fibres form and how the silica phase is incorporated into them. The authors relate the electrospinning conditions and solution composition to the morphology of the resulting PVB-SiO₂ nanocomposite fibres, characterising the fibres to assess uniformity and the distribution of the inorganic phase. The study is part of a broader programme at the University of Belgrade on electrospun PVB-based nanocomposites used to reinforce and impregnate high-performance fabrics, supporting the design of protective and structural composite materials.
