Summary
Around 300 million people worldwide live with chronic wounds and another 100 million with traumatic ones, and infection is what most often stalls the healing process. This study develops electrospun scaffolds loaded with silver nanoparticles to accelerate cutaneous healing while preventing infection. The nanoparticles were added directly to polymer blends of chitosan and glycosaminoglycans, so the antibacterial agent is distributed through the fibre rather than applied afterwards - the point being to control silver release rather than simply maximise it.
