Summary
Alginate is attractive for tissue repair but will not electrospin on its own; it needs a spinnable partner. This study compares two candidates - dextran and poly(ethylene oxide) - as process adjuvants for biodegradable alginate-containing fibrous membranes intended to serve simultaneously as drug delivery systems and as guidance for cell growth. The membranes were then coated, adding a second layer of control over how quickly the drug leaves the fibre.
