Summary
Glioblastoma multiforme is among the most aggressive brain tumours and currently has no cure, which makes local delivery at the resection site an attractive alternative to systemic treatment. This study proposes a composite nanosystem in which chitosan-coated solid lipid nanoparticles are embedded within nanofibres containing O-carboxymethyl chitosan. Coacervation was used to produce the nanoparticles without solvents, and the fibres then act as the retaining matrix - giving a two-level structure where the fibre holds position at the site while the nanoparticle carries the lipophilic anti-proliferative drug.
