Summary

Chronic wounds and post-operative complications are made worse by impaired regeneration and by infections that persist thanks to biofilm formation and antibiotic resistance. This study develops electrospun polyvinylpyrrolidone scaffolds carrying silver nanoparticles, conceived as multifunctional platforms that support healing while resisting microbial colonisation. The nanoparticles were synthesised and distributed uniformly through the fibres, and the resulting scaffolds were then evaluated in vitro for their bioactivity - the combination sought for wound dressings and for coating implantable devices, where a surface that is simply inert is not enough.
