Point-of-Care Applicable Metabotyping Using Biofluid-Specific Electrospun MetaSAMP

Summary

Ambient ionisation mass spectrometry can read the metabolome of a biofluid directly, without lengthy preparation, but two obstacles remain: matrix effects distort the analysis, and samples degrade in transit to the laboratory. This study addresses both with biofluid-specific electrospun sampling materials - MetaSAMP - which capture the metabolites on a nanofibre substrate designed for the fluid in question. Stabilising the sample at the point of collection is what makes metabotyping feasible outside a specialised laboratory.

Linari Electrospinning Systems

Linari NanoTech system with rotating collector (125 rpm)
The sampling materials were spun on a Linari NanoTech system with the collector rotating at 125 rpm, under ambient conditions at 22 ± 2 °C. Low rotation speeds like this are used for uniform collection rather than fibre alignment - see the full speed range of our Easy Drum.
