Easy Drum is the perfect machine for those who already have a Starter Kit or another conventional electrospinning system, allowing them to go from a static nanofiber collection system to a dynamic one.

Easy Drum is a system that permits the rotation of drum, wire or disk collectors.

VERSATILE AND HIGH PERFORMANCES ROTARY SYSTEM

Easy Drum is a rotary system for electrospinning applications that enables you to obtain aligned micro/nanofibers using drum or disk collectors. We have different models available for every electrospinning use. Gain rotational speeds of up to 3000rpm, or 5000rpm with the high-speed drum in order to form aligned fibres with the easy drum rotational unit.

WHAT KIND OF FIBERS DO YOU GET WITH THIS MACHINE?

Using rotational drums, you gain the ability to produce perfectly aligned fibres. Aligned nanofibres have gained a lot of interest in recent years, especially within the field of regenerative medicine and biomaterials.

WHAT ADVANTAGES DO YOU GET FROM USING THIS MACHINE?

This machine allows you to detach the collector, with the advantage of simply replacing it and allowing the creation of tubular structures. By simply moving the mandrels, in fact, you can remove the collector without the need of cutting your fibers substrate. Thanks to the detachable mandrels of the rotary system, collectors of different sizes can be mounted in an easy and fast way.

WHAT MATERIALS CAN YOU ELECTROSPIN?

It is possible to electrospin any type of synthetic, organic polymer or ceramic material, starting from solutions at room temperature.

WHAT QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF NANOFIBERS DO YOU GET?

Oriented or non-oriented nanofibers are created on tubular collectors of variable diameter and length.

The quantity of nanofibers that can be produced is determined by the electrospinning system into which it is incorporated.

Why alignment is worth a rotary unit

On a static collector the jet whips freely and the fibers land in every direction. As soon as the collector rotates fast enough, each fiber is caught, stretched and wound along the rotation direction: the deposit becomes anisotropic, and the fibers themselves become thinner and more crystalline because of the additional drawing.

This is what makes rotary collection worth it:

  • Regenerative medicine - aligned fibers guide cell orientation on nerve, tendon, muscle and vascular scaffolds, where a random mat simply does not work.
  • Tubular structures - vascular grafts and conduits produced directly on a cylindrical collector and removed whole, without cutting the membrane.
  • Sensors and composites - directional electrical, optical and mechanical properties along the fiber axis.
  • Thinner fibers - the mechanical drawing at high speed reduces the average diameter compared to a static plate.

Three models, one decision

The choice comes down to two questions: how fast, and does the collector need to be at high voltage?

  • BI-EASY-DRUM (standard) - 75 to 3000 rpm, grounded collector. Enough for most aligned-fiber work.
  • BI-EASY-DRUM-HS (high speed) - from 0 to 5000 rpm, grounded. Choose it when you need the highest degree of alignment and the thinnest fibers.
  • BI-EASY-DRUM-HSI (high speed + insulation) - 0 to 5000 rpm with the collector insulated from ground up to 40 kV. Required when you want to bias the collector with a second generator, and the version used on our Gantry 3D Spin.

All three take collectors from 1 to 100 mm in diameter and up to 150 mm long, mounted and removed quickly thanks to the self-centering chucks.

Easy Drum upgrades a setup you already own - it does not include a chamber, a high voltage generator or a syringe pump. Frequently asked questions

Is Easy Drum a complete electrospinning machine?

No. It is a rotary collection unit that turns an existing static setup into a dynamic one. It does not include a chamber, high voltage generator, syringe pump or needles. If you are starting from scratch, see the Electrospinning Starter Kit for aligned nanofibers, which includes a rotary collector.

Which model should I choose?

The standard version reaches 3000 rpm with a grounded collector. The high-speed version reaches 5000 rpm for maximum alignment and thinner fibers. The HSI version adds insulation of the collector from ground up to 40 kV, needed when you want to bias it with a second generator.

Can I make tubular structures?

Yes. The mandrels are detachable, so the collector can be removed without cutting the fiber substrate - which is how vascular grafts and conduits are produced and peeled off whole.

What collector sizes does it accept?

Collectors from 1 to 100 mm in diameter and up to 150 mm in length, mounted and replaced quickly thanks to the self-centering chucks. Drum, wire and disk collectors are all supported.

Will it fit my existing electrospinning system?

In most cases yes: the unit has no geometric restrictions with respect to the syringe, so you can build the needle-collector configuration you need. Tell us which system you own and we will confirm compatibility.

How does rotation speed change the fibers?

At low speed the deposit is a randomly oriented mat. As speed increases the fibers are drawn and wound along the rotation direction, becoming more aligned and thinner - which is what matters for scaffolds guiding cell growth and for anisotropic materials.

What is included as standard?

An aluminium cylindrical collector 30×120 mm, together with the rotation unit and its digital control panel.
